Worse than 1 star. Epically Bad.
This is maybe the most poorly conceived and executed movie with such a large budget, ever.

There are many reviews that detail the plot, the gaping plot holes, the idiotic actions of the characters, and the recycled ideas from dozens of better movies. I'm not going to rehash all that.

I recall reading about this when it was released, that there was some sort of 'issue' between the actor who played the helicopter pilot and maybe the director or the main star. Not sure, doesn't matter in the least. What does matter is that every scene they are in 'together' is painfully, blatantly obviously a green screen scene. They did not interact personally at all.

Additionally, every scene has a depth of field of about 3 feet. Every line of dialogue is delivered by an actor in closeup, so you can only see them and anything 6 inches past their face is blurred into oblivion.

This is extremely bad film-making, on a technical and 'artistic' level. If you are a person who appreciates a beautifully filmed scene, this will horrify you.

Some of my issues with this movie - Zombies that are martial arts experts. Every one of them moves like a ninja and has reflexes and strength better than actual martial artists.

No explanation of how formerly dead accountants, cashiers, and housewives suddenly become lethal hand-to-hand warriors.

The zombie tiger. Why aren't there zombie cats and dogs and pigeons and rats and squirrels? I know they aren't cool like a zombie tiger, but if there's a zombie tiger, they has to be other zombie animals.

And why does the zombie king have a horse? So many questions.

And when did zombies start tailoring their own costumes?

This movie should be an embarrassment for everyone involved in making it. I'm embarrassed just for watching.

Actually not a bad Zombie Flick, but not too Good Either
A lot about this movie was hammed up/ hyped up in the media. It did have a couple well known actors in it fer sure, but only 2 or 3 at most.

Aside from that, it has a number of tropes in it that people will recognize from zombie horror, and combined with the action and gore and elements of the undead at times, it was a pretty decent film.

That being said, the drawbacks, thoguh few, happened frequently enoguh to deter from what could have been a more spectacular zombie film to add to the genre in a memorable way.

One thing that always drags down zombie and horror in general: TOO MUCH TALKING.

This is what mad the Walking Dead show go from a great cool unique watch, to another survival drama that only sometimes amped things up.

Army of The Dead has waaay too many scenes of nedless conveersation instead of more cool or even campy risks taken with the zombies and gore.

All around the film is a 6/10 because of what worked for the genre of film involving a bit of action and the undead, but it just barely slid by with that score at best.
