The main character is a bit like Disney's Jasmine...rich, well fed and whiny
I am NOT the target audience for "Spirit Untamed". It clearly is designed for little girls who are infatuated with horses...and isn't the sort of movie a 58 year-old man would normally watch. So why did I pick this film to watch? Well, I've seen most of Jake Gyllenhaal's movies and thought I'd just try to see them all. In the case of "Spirit Untamed", I rather wish I'd just skipped this one.

The story is about a young girl who grew up without her mother (who was killed riding a horse) and whose father was a coward and left her to be raised by his family. Incidentally, this is also the story of Theodore Roosevelt's first child, Alice Lee Roosevelt, who was raised by his family after his wife died...and Teddy ran off to the Dakotas to play frontiersman for a few years....but back to the story. Lucky is an unruly and rich young lady and spends the first minutes of the film whining about how horrible her life is...which, frankly, made me mad. Like Princess Jasmine, she's spoiled rotten and yet still wants more out of life....get a grip, girl!

Unable to control her, Lucky is sent out west to live in the country. There she finds happiness through some horsey...which, frankly, is what MOST young girls seem to want! I am sure the filmmakers knew this and the film is likely designed for girls.

So is it any good? No. Despite coming from Dreamworks, the film's CGI looks bad...like it was made 8-10 years ago...and was designed as a direct-to-DVD release! It's obvious the company put little into making the movie...which is odd, as the film DOES feature not only Gyllenhaal but Julianne Moore...two top actors who must have cost a fortune to get for voice acting. It's confusing and I think the money would have been better spend on the animation and just using unknowns for these parts.

    Woke alert
Young kids are probably too young to notice but this movie is another attempt to push the woke agenda. White men are bad and stupid, everyone else is great!

Lots of girl power rah rah rah stuff too. Animation os pretty average. Jokes are meh. Avoid.
