A well researched - historically accurate viking glorifying movie
An ode to masculinity, violence and pride. This movie was close to be a Gladiator - like masterpiece.

The cinematography was beautiful and it's not hard to give your undivided attention to the screen. Violent and weird, historical and magical. The Northman is a movie filled with moments to be remembered, such as the village raid. Throughout the entire movie I reminiscence of Alejandro Gonzáles Iñárritu's Revenant, which says alot about the quality of this movie.

I only wish the action didn't stop during the third act, since it basically starts being a drama to give some sort of arc and redemption opportunity to our hero but in m opinion this is where the movie falls short. At this moment is easy to get distracted.

I'm sure those weird moments are going to be a turn off for most people, some of them fell absolutely unnecessary.

    impressive
A revenge story. Blody, cruel, dark, naturalist, sadistic more than heroic.

    Old faiths.

And the fate as shield and guide.

The result, an impressive movie with a fist of familiar moments, with two dramatic twists, remembering one of the versions of king Arthur and seducing for landscapes.

The story is a very simple, pragmatic one and the impression than the fight scenes and the massacres are the only significant sounds, maybe, not very comfortable for part of public. But as modest reader, I suppose than the contribution of Sjor sounds enough as a reasonable compromise for a not exactly profound but beautiful crafted story, different Hamlet but more precise in details.

So, I admitt; just I like it.
