This was a terrible sci-fi flick. With SPOLIERS!
I've read through a lot of reviews of this movie and most of them start with words to the effect that "wow! Great cinematography!" or "Look what a great filmmaker can do with 80 million dollars! Phenomenal effects!" and seem to take pains to say anything, do anything, but state the most glaringly obvious fact: this is a bad movie! Now I'm not trying to be negative here, but let's be objective and say it out loud! Bad Movie! The "sci-fi" of the AI vs. Human war....is poorly rendered, explained, and totally unbelievable! AI stands for "Artificial Intelligence" for god's sake! This is some of the most deficient "AI" ever rendered to film! The AI systems can't detect a security force staging a secret incursion into their lands??? COME ON! The robots in this thing were strikingly human in thinking and screw ups! A dog carries a futuristic grenade (yes, GRENADE!!!) away from the protagonist Joshua and The AI Child saving them from certain destruction and manages to drop it into the area from where the AI forces tossed it from 50 yards away??? AI can't detect incursions into their laboratories?? WHAT!?!? Bad, poor , insultingly incompetent plot!!! This wasn't sci-fi this was SHLOCK-FI! Nothing intelligible about it sci-fi-wise! This was awful! Acting? Great! The Kid, the guy who played Joshua, and.... Allison Janey! (I was delighted to see her in this!!! I love her!). But I don't care about the acting, production, "look," any of that! If the writing is bad, that torpedoes the whole shebang!!! The writing of the story is the point of a damn good movie!!! The sci-fi was not for sci-fi fans....good sci-fi I mean.....IT WAS NOT PLAUSIBLE! NONE OF IT! This was a major disappointment! People are trying to be nice, and that's admirable, but the purpose of a critical review is to be...well...CRITICAL!!! Anyways...yeah, visually impressive. Uh huh. There, see I can be a nice guy too!...

Worth Watching For The Special Effects, But Not For Anything Else
If the script had been as good as the special effects, then this movie would've scored a Perfect 10. That's because the special effects were absolutely beautiful and aesthetically unique. It's the type of sci-fi I love watching and which inspires my thinking on topics of the future and technology. Back to the script though...

The script for this movie felt uninspired and I didn't care about any of the characters at all. None of them had any unique qualities, and the dialogue was all totally predictable. It was definitely written by a professional though, but it just felt flat and it took no real risks. Towards the end of the movie, however, it seemed to pick up a little bit, but by that stage I wasn't invested in it anymore. Also, the movie went on for faaaaaar too long, considering I didn't care about the content.

So huge props to the special effects team for making me finish watching this film and not thinking it was a total waste of time, and that's the only reason it won't be unforgettable.
