Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday

Set over a day in 1924, the story follows Jane Fairchild, a maid in the Niven household, who has the day off to celebrate Mothering Sunday while Mr. and Mrs. Niven attend a lunch to celebrate the engagement of their neighbour’s only remaining son, Paul, to Emma Hobday. Jane rejoices at her freedom on an unseasonably hot, beautiful spring day. But, she has no mother to go to. For almost seven years she has – joyfully and without shame – been Paul’s lover. Like the Nivens, Paul belongs to England’s old money aristocracy, whereas Jane was orphaned at birth. With the house conveniently empty, they can finally meet in Paul’s bedroom for the first time. Today will be their last as lovers. It is also the day that will mark the beginning of Jane’s transformation as the story unfolds through the hours of clandestine passion.

A total waste of 2 hours of my life
I was drawn to this movie as it was a period piece and with a great cast. However, it was excruciatingly slow. The story line was illogical and silly. The gratuitous nudity was quite unnecessary and quite frankly infuriating. What maid wanders around a mansion looking at the artworks in the middle of the day, nude? Why did they do that as it was ridiculous.

As the story "progressed" the lead spent most of her time lighting up cigarettes. It became annoying, and again why.

My companion and I both walked out at the end wondering why we had even stayed the course of the movie. It was a total waste of time.

    magical
For me in any movie matters how you get to know the characters , in this picture you will know them intimately , you get inside them , in their love life , share their worry's , sadness and joys , and that is what exactly movies are about ( to make you feel it ) , cry watching it As sad as life is , it goes on , for Jane she should continue living , continue to dream and breath .

Grate acting , great story , great cinematic , especially loved the beauty of the English country side and marvelous cottages.

Superb performance by Colin Firth ( as usual ) . And by Odessa Young , you are a beauty .

    A must see movie .

    Tow thumps up.
