dmrsmsm - 2 July 2024 This is what would happen if Picasso made movies This film weirded me out (it still does), but not in a bad way... but not in a good way either. The writing and directing was gorgeous, yet dizzying. The acting (especially Emma Stone) was gorgeous, I'm amazed people can be that good at what they do.
The film is about the main character, Bella (who now has the brain of a child (her child))becoming a woman (oversimplified). But even thought that's the film's overall plot, it tends to focus (A LOT) on Bella's sexual desires. It focuses so much on that that I becomes a little much. Like, we get it, Bella wants to have sex, but I'm sure that's not all she's interested in, right? Well it turns out that basically is.
Besides that the film is funny, smart, and a beautiful piece of art.
davezuckerman - 26 June 2024 Surreal, Provocative, Funny As Hell The true star of this sublime fever dream is the alternate universe that the filmmakers created for it. At times you forget just how fantastical it is until you get a subtle slap in the face and unwittingly join the collective murmur of oohs and ahhs. Every one of the actors took to life in this tilted and unsettling reality like a duck-dog takes to water. Bella must have looked like quite a difficult role on paper yet Emma Stone made her impossibly believable and absolutely deserves her accolades (as do her eyebrows). However, nothing in this nor any other film can outshine Duncun's desperately confused WTF moments. Mark Ruffalo at his best. Filmmaking at its finest, freest, and yes, funnest. I had expected an unusual ride with Yorgos Lanthimos but I truly had no idea that it would be so much fun. The film is aesthetically striking. It is uncomfortably engaging. It is incomparably profound. And it is freakin' hilarious. Yes, I enjoyed this movie. I enjoyed it enough to write about it. Who does that? Okay, bye.
