Cabrini

When Italian immigrant Francesca Cabrini steps foot in America in 1889, she is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children living in New York's slums. Armed with a fearless spirit and a compassionate heart, Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society's most vulnerable. Despite broken English and poor health, Cabrini leverages her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.

    A Beautiful Film!
Great job with the writing, casting, acting, and set design! I didn't know about this woman and was flying back from Italy as I saw this on the plane. I wish I knew of her before I went to the Vatican to give her proper respect for all she did for not only Italian immigrants, but all impoverished people of the world. What an outstanding soul to fight until the bitter end for my people in times of dead-ends for them. I bawled my eyes out on the plane and didn't care because I felt so connected to this amazing human being. Great movie, great story--you won't be disappointed! Cristiana Dell'Anna killed it!

    uplifting biopic
During the turn of the century, Italian immigrants flood into New York City. They are mostly uneducated laborers who don't speak English. They face racism from the populace and the establishment starting with Mayor Gould (John Lithgow). Mother Cabrini (Cristiana Dell'Anna) is a nun from Italy who won't take no for an answer. She wants to start a worldwide charity beginning with China. She is dismissed by the chauvinist church until she convinces The Pope. During their first night in Five Points, she and her sisters are rescued by prostitute Vittoria (Romana Maggiora Vergano).

I've heard of the name mostly as a place in NYC. This is informative and compelling. Director Alejandro Monteverde previously made Sound of Freedom. This is a superior film. It is traditional in its structure. The acting is superb. It's an easy uplifting story of pure underdog material.
