    Like Tiramisu
Watched the movie on TV via Amazon with great expectation and though the CGI was exceptional (aren't they all?) I was left with feeling less than completely satisfied. When will filmmakers understand that the lower-quality TV transmissions of movies fail to show any detail in night-time scenes? All characters spoke American with the exception of a Zorba-type who was, somehow, Greek. There were occasional efforts to acknowledge the original book though such was evidently not the in director's remit, but for the most part the plot was incomprehensible. Unlike the 1987 version which is much superior in most respects. As might have been expected, the unsatisfactory ending (I was left with a feeling of being left, not so much in mid-air as low orbit) closed with the opportunity of a further sequel but as with most sequels they are but pale shadows of earlier versions. In this case, the 1987 movie. Or best of all, read the book. Tiramisu? - all froth and little substance.

    Truly insufferable
First off let me say I'm not familiar with the book, lore, mythology and all that jazz. I also remember hearing and reading years ago people lambast David Lynch's adaptation as one of the worst, a box office bomb and an affront to the loyal fanbase. Considering I had no interest in the franchise, I automatically knew going in to this new adaptation that the fanbase for this franchise would oscillate between insufferable and sycophantic.

I did watch the first film (on streaming, thank God) and was able to deduce quickly that it's simply a big budget plagiarism of the Book of Revelations and Exodus, albeit told from the perspective of the false messiah, the Antichrist who we are supposed to sympathize with. We are basically watching the exploits of the Antichrist.

The second film is truly insufferable, from the cringy made-up language that blends Arabic, Farsi and good old gibberish, to the extremely slow pace masked by grandiose settings and menacing scenes that lead nowhere.

I'm not the biggest fan of the two leads either, who have been shoved down our throats and outside of this film have terrible filmographies. What's the last Zendaya film that wasn't a big budget comic book spectacle or something that contained an element of tabooism to be marketed later as groundbreaking?

I gave up right around the halfway mark, wondering why do I care about a bunch of people cosplaying as bedouins and riding giant worms. Truly ridiculous.

Also after reading the author's bio, the ridiculousness of the story makes sense when you realize he wrote it during the counterculture movement, partook in mushrooms and other psychadellics, and probably read the bible stoned out of his mind and figured, "Hey, why don't I recreate this?". In fact, he did get influenced by Catholicism and Islam but I don't want to turn this review into an exegetical examination.

Well, I surely won't be watching Dune: Messiah. I think I know how it will end already. Please stop wasting money on films no one wants to see. I'm convinced most of the budget went towards marketing and sockpuppet accounts to drum up an insane amount of hype for what is essentially the greatest lullaby movie ever made. I still think Dennis Villeneuve is a great director. Hopefully he can get back to making great movies again once he's done with his passion project.
