Good funny slasher with great sound.
I don't get the bad reviews for this movie. I was looking for a comedy/horror and having The Foo Fighters as the actors turned out to be a nice bonus. Before watching Studio 666 I read some reviews stating the acting wasn't good so I expected just some laughs watching Dave Grohl and co trying to act but fail. In my opinion it was quite the opposite, they all were believable in their roles. Not what I was expecting from musicians. Nice to see Kerry King from Slayer playing a character. I bet those guys had a lot of fun making this movie. I sure did when watching it. Good slasher scenes as well. Also much better than I expected. There aren't too much bloody scenes but the ones you get are well made and shot. Creative ways of dying in a slasher, can't get enough of it. Musicals, normally the genre I despise, and although this one isn't a musical, the sound was just great. I would watch any movie with that music. Great sound and funny slasher, what else do you want?

Thrashy horror fun with the Foo Fighters
This comedy horror is centred on rock band the Foo Fighters; they have been struggling to find inspiration for their tenth album. Hoping to find inspiration they move into an abandoned mansion in Encino. Things soon start going wrong. Their drum technician is killed in a freak accident then, while exploring a creepy cellar, lead singer Dave Grohl finds himself possessed by a demon. Now he needs them to finish the song he found on an old tape; no matter how long it ends up or the other band members opinions. This being a horror film it isn't long before people are meeting fairly grisly ends.

This film was more enjoyable that I initially expected. I thought it might be a vanity project but the band members send themselves up in a way that provides plenty of laughs and a fair amount of gore. While the acting feels forced and many of the effects aren't great it still manages to be fun... to such a degree that the more I watched the more I wondered if it was a deliberate choice. The various deaths are pretty gory and original. I must admit that while I'm aware of the Foo Fighters I don't really know anything about them or their music; I imaging this will be even more fun for their fans. Overall it may not be an objectively great movie but it is a lot of fun if you enjoy trashy horror films.
