maccanex - 30 June 2024 Annoying, boring and exasperating The music at the beginning of the movie was so off-putting that it was tempting to stop the movie then. The choice of the music is inexplicable? The movie unfolds slower than molasses from a bottle on a cold day. This show isn't about murder; it isn't about court drama; it isn't about family dynamic/breakdown; its isn't about mental health; it's about a dysfunctional relationship that is not plausible nor feasible. The only redeeming benefit was I learned some french and you can eat 3 bowls of popcorn in excessively long movie. A movie review should not have a minimum amount of characters; sometimes "it sucks" of sufficient!
lavo-01940 - 4 June 2024 Much ado about nothing... but still enjoyable Don't get me wrong, the film is perfectly built, the characters and the situation are believable, thanks to the excellent acting and plot.
However, and talking as a Frenchman, I can't understand all the fuzz for nothing, specially the hate "The Taste of Things" received from my country, as the cultural authorities didn't choose "Anatomy of a fall" for the Oscars; and by saying this, I must point out this important detail (spoilers free):
There's no real outcome at all!
The entire film is trying to build into a probable twist, like revealing to be a silly accident (perhaps involving the dog), or Daniel (the son) committing suicide after hearing the nature of his parents fights...
But simply, nothing happens!
If this film didn't have all the fuzz, and probably added any kind of outcome (even a Shyamalan-type twist) would have been a better film.
In the end, it's a good film, but don't expect anything, once the story is over.
