    Missed Opportunity
18th century French language is beautiful, delicate, spiritual and admirable. Reading St Simon's memoirs in french is as enjoyable as reading Thucydides in Greek.

Yet the language featured in "Jeanne du Barry" is that of 2020s French suburban under culture.

The actors seem to be talking to one another as though they were in the playground of their drama school.

Compare this to similar period drama produced in the UK. BBC period dramas for instance feature the most delicious Georgian English. Remember for instance Tom Jones (1997) or the timeless Pride and Prejudice (1995). Compare also to "Barry Lindon" 1975 or to "the Duchess" (2008).

Maiwenn, not endowed with especially cute features by the way, merely managed to put together a big budget from public donors to satisfy her whim to play along Johnny Depp.

The outcome is pathetic. At least the original French version.

    Cinematic Masterpiece
This film transports you to the 18th The costumes and setting of Versailles are perfection Johnny Depp.captures some incredible nuances of King Louis XV's personality and his chemistry with Maiwen is electrifying.

Johnny Depp portrays Louis XV not just as a king but as a vulnerable aging man The cinematographer used lighting and shadows to create the mood of each scene Johnny Depp became Louis XV when he walked through the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.

Maiwen. Has created a work of art and Johnny Depp was the perfect choice to portray Louis XV I am anxious to see more of Maiwenn's work Johnny Depp's extraordinary talent is undeniable The studios in Hollywood are controlled by idiots who are self destructing because of their incredibly short sighted and misinformed decisions.
