Brilliant remake
I was very excited to see this as the original is one of my favourite musicals. The music to Westside story is fantastic. I was wondering if they would do better then the original. I would say it's more of a tribute but with a few slight differences. Strong performances from the cast. The two leads are amazing. Such chemistry from them and they had me in tears. Fabulous singing voices. I think they did a better job of showing why the gangs were fighting and how bad the conditions were where they lived. It's a brilliant film. Someone should retire...
From the appallingly bad writing to the (unintentionally funny) overacting, this is Z-Grade schlock of the worst kind. I couldn't actually watch the whole thing in one sitting. What was so surprising about this movie was that there were actually some decent actors in it, but they were given absolutely nothing to work with. They will never live this one down. Nor will their careers take off. Think Elizabeth Berkely in Showgirls (a far better movie than this one i'm afraid). So a total waste of time money talent and effort. Someone needs to retire...
Showgirls was tacky, long-winded and amateurish from start to finish. Easily the worst film I have ever seen.
