    Taking Care of Business Baby!!!
Austin Butler transformed from a California kid into the King. What the trolls who leave these ridiculous ratings fail to realize is, Austin actually sang through much of this film, knew Elvis's moves on stage and absolutely nailed the performances, not only in the 50's 60' s and 70's but captured Elvis at his best and at his worst.

Maybe movie viewers also don't realize, it was Denzel Washington that approached the director of Elvis about Austin. Butter and Denzel we're performing together in a Broadway play and Denzel heard what he thought was Elvis Presley performing "Unchained Melody" in a green room behind the Broadway stage. It was Austin on the piano rehearsing for his Elvis audition. Denzel was so impressed, he called Luhrmann himself.

It's at the end of Elvis in his last performance where they split screen his last performance of Unchained Melody and we see the incredible performance of Butler.

There are so many jaw dropping moments in Elvis that Austin Butler nailed, it begs the question if the real Elvis inhabited Austin Butler.

All's I know is, there's going to be an Oscar for best actor in the Jungle room at Grace Land. Book it.

Austin Butler and Tom Hanks are super as Elvis and Col Tom.
This is a long movie, well over 2 1/2 hours, but my wife and I watched it without a pause, we never felt it to be too long. That is how entertaining and mesmerizing it is. Austin Butler is super as Elvis and even does some of the singing (although most Elvis songs are from his recordings) and Tom Hanks in heavy prosthetics is super as the devious manager, Col Tom Parker who was actually an illegal emigrant from Holland.

I am old enough to remember when Elvis became famous and his career took off, I was a teenager in the late 1950s and early 1960s. I never was a fan of his, simply because his type of music didn't appeal to me. However now I have an album of his greatest hits on my music USB drive that I play in my car.

The movie covers Elvis' young days growing up poor in Mississippi and how he was influenced by the black soul music, his initial appearance on the Louisiana Hay Ride, how he came to be enticed by Col Tom Parker to take him on as his manager. And finally his last days as a performer and death after battles with drugs.

To me what makes this movie exceptional, in addition to the two great performances, are the directing and editing which is a Baz Luhrmann trademark. I will watch it again.

At home, on DVD from our public library.
