abdobeeh13 - 18 June 2024 Second half is so boring "Purple Hearts" starts with promise but quickly falters, particularly in its second half, which drags and fails to maintain the initial momentum. The plot, centered around a marriage of convenience between Cassie, an aspiring singer, and Luke, a troubled Marine, initially engages but soon becomes predictable and uninspired. Moreover, the film's portrayal of Arabs is problematic, relying on harmful stereotypes that feel out of place and offensive. This portrayal not only detracts from the story but also perpetuates negative images that are harmful and unnecessary. Overall, "Purple Hearts" disappoints with its lackluster second half and insensitive cultural depictions, making it a film that ultimately falls short.
LukeCustomer2 - 6 February 2024 So close but so far This one had the opportunity to explore the differences between say "the woke" and "MAGA" via a romance and that was where I thought it was going but... it got lost.
Cassie is a newly diagnosed type I diabetic. She is also a bit of a woke liberal. She has spent her life growing up poor and essentially being the daughter of illegal aliens. She doesn't work a conventional job but rather is a singer. Luke is a newly minted Marine recruit with a family history of being a marine. His dad is a former MP and he has a lot to live up to. One problem, at some point he messed up and got involved with some bad people who he now owes a lot of money to.
The two decide to marry to get the benefits that the military affords to married couples. For her...better treatment for her medical condition and for him money to pay off the loan shark. This starts the opportunity for each to learn a little about the other's world and realize the other side isn't so bad. But they didn't focus enough on that and instead chose a route that I found laughable - and spent too much time on it. Both characters are unlikable and in the end I had a hard time caring.
