The Good the Bad and the Absolutely Bonkers
Moonfall had all of the pieces to work. It has three respectable lead actors Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, and John Bradley. Each of them has done work in the past that I really enjoy. The director is Ronald Emmerich, known for his big-budget fan favorite action films like Independence Day. So, where could this go wrong? The answer: everywhere. Nearly everything in this was so absurd that you couldn't take it seriously.

The absolute absurdity caused me to have to think about my rating many times. When you watch an action film like this, you don't expect Academy-Award-nominated acting. Though I expected competent acting, something was not present in any part of this film. Patrick Wilson and Halle Berry are two actors whose work has been acclaimed, but they slug through this film. The problem was in the script; the dialogue was incredibly sub-par. I figure that Independence Day: Resurgence was a fluke in the otherwise solid career of Ronald Emmerich. Though it seems this might be the new norm. The biggest glaring flaw was cellular phones. With the world's satellites destroyed, there's no possibility they can use a satellite phone in space. I realize this is a disaster film, so to expect a tight plot is unrealistic. I can't say I wasn't entertained. It might have been some hot garbage, but the wacky CGI and the poor dialogue make it one of the wildest rides of the year.

No Rating: A film that falls between it's so bad it's good and near outright trash.

    Well, Another Weaker Rolandism Here
Roland Emmerich is an incredible uneven filmmaker, so he can make a real masterpiece like Day After Tomorrow, or. The Patriot, or, most recently, absolutely stunning Midway, and then he can produce silly duds like 2012 and now, Moonfall.

What seems to be main issue here is the hectic, rushed and chaotic pacing, so the movie, especially the first half, seems to be a cut and paste hotch potch of several movies which hold together rather badly, ad only later on it catches on and gets better, but so much.

As a result of this rushes tempo the character development suffers significantly. They all seem to be rather bland or one-dimensional, and never are ready to be appreciated or embraced or liked.

Both Halle and Patrick seem to try their best but they fail many times, as the cliche-ridden plot and faulty tempo make it all a real mess. What is more offensive, obvious shallowness of a script and huge scientific errors make it a very unlikely movie to enjoy.

As a result, what we have here is a strange concoction of bizarre science, poor pacing weak dialog, laughable character underdevelopment and general lack of cohesion.

Humor sometimes shines here but not much and there is No any deeper insight here at all. Just huge budget and awesome CGI. But pity, they often do not help to make a one good movie.
