Amazing in So Many Ways
This is a dark and depressing movie to watch. But, the acting is superb, Joaquin Phoenix's performance is just stellar. The acting, directing, and writing is excellent. Haunting, but excellent.
As others have pointed out, this incarnation isn't the mastermind we'd expect from the Joker. And that is definitely a fair point. This version of the joker is probably more true to what you'd expect to see in real life, not a comic.
I really wish DC would get their act together and bring some cohesion to the mess that is DC. But, this movie is really impressive, Phoenix knocked it out of the park. It's a great movie. - fhfgfhfhfhfgf - 7 December 2022

I really don't understand all the dozens here. Of course, a good movie, good acting, good filming. But the plot is not so intriguing. Sometimes it's too long and a bit boring. I double checked the genre to see if this is a drama or what. Crime, drama, suspense, it said. I would put maybe 90% on drama and rest on thriller.
I miss more dialogue, more depth, more substance. The plot really isn't more than a somewhat crazy person becoming a little crazier. Of course there is an undertone that it is the society, the system and the petty character of the people that are bringing it down and creating an evil beast that later wants to destroy everything. Absolutely, but I don't think it's an intriguing enough story, plot, and dialogue to give it a ten.
Worth watching, yes. But not amazing.
