The Many Saints of Newark

The Many Saints of Newark

Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark, N.J., history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters start to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, whose influence over his nephew will help shape the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss, Tony Soprano.

    A Complete Disappointment
A big disappointment that could have been avoided.

A movie that had it all, great casting, interesting characters and a potentially great story. All of that meant nothing because the script is just terrible.

The movie, instead of being entertaining, bores us with things that distract us from what we would like to see in this movie, which is the story of The Sopranos.

Already at the very beginning, it becomes clear to us that this is another one of those movies that will not be fun but rather tiresome. The film deals more with relations in society than with The Sopranos, I was expecting an interesting crime story, and in the end the film is the same as most of today's films.

The dialogues are strange, forced, as is the plot and in the end, the film is a complete failure.

It's a shame, the actors are good, this could have been excellent. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry has almost nothing to do with entertainment anymore.

    A complete waste of time.

Why was this Movie even made?
This movie is awful by any objective measure. The script is aimless and sloppy, like a first draft from a freshman film student. The focus of the narrative is unclear, is it about race riots? Or is it about mafia thugs run amok, or is it about Tony Soprano's formative years? It doesn't really give any sort of treatment to any of it.

We see gimmicks like violent and brutal torture and killing, but its just gratuitous. The performances aren't good mainly because there's so little to work with. They were featuring an old and dying Ray Liotta with is upsetting to watch.

So, the critics should pan this right? Not really, critics today are no longer interested in the craft of filmmaking.
